Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) is the world’s leading product development partnership (PDP) dedicated to discovering, developing, and delivering affordable and effective antimalarial drugs.
MMV collaborates with government agencies, private and public sector partners, and clinical centers in malaria-endemic regions to bring lifesaving solutions to the people most affected by malaria. We are seeking a motivated and inquisitive Pharmacology/Toxicology Scientist (Postdoc) to join our dynamic team and contribute to MMV's mission through cutting-edge non-clinical research and development, ensuring the robust safety profile of novel antimalarial candidates. This is an exceptional 3-year fellowship for a recent PhD graduate eager to deepen their scientific expertise in a translational setting, working closely with seasoned project directors.
During the programme, MMV provides this fellow with the opportunity to participate in drug development projects involving innovative research and novel methods to advance the development of effective antimalarial drugs. Upon completion of the programme, the fellow will be well-equipped to accept opportunities in academia, industry or other R&D product development partnership organisations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Work alongside with project leaders by providing support, and scientific input into research projects, regulatory animal studies, while also exploring innovative solutions in malaria drug development

Take part in non-clinical evaluations of new antimalarial drug combinations

Further develop skills in areas such as:
- Toxicology and safety studies
- In vitro teratogenicity and testicular assays
- Develop pre-clinical safety plans for new modalities like oligonucleotides
- Development of non-clinical and clinical study plans for small molecule drugs
- Implementing non-clinical and clinical studies that support product development
- Animal exposures analysis from pre-clinical studies, and comparison with predictive human dose/exposures to determine margins
- Efficacy and safety assessment through biomarkers
- Supporting drug discovery projects in the delivery of innovative new antimalarial dug candidates
- Author and publish high quality research articles
- Attend selected conferences for training, giving presentations and posters representing MMV, building and maintaining network
- Participate in drug development project and team meetings
- Gain wider experience of overall drug discovery and development process
Qualifications and Skills
Education and experience
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Science, Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacology, Toxicology, Physiology or Biometrics or DVM
- Non-Clinical Safety and Pharmacology postdoc experience would be a plus.
- Published peer-reviewed articles
- Experience of working in a cross-functional matrix setting is a plus
